When I first moved to the US I became obsessed with the TV show What Not To Wear (the one with Stacy and Clinton – remember it??). They’d always have a moan about people going to the supermarket in sweatpants and so on. As a result, I got it stuck in my head that it was a bit silly or even lazy to wear workout clothes outside of the gym (over-thinking things as usual).
And so for a long time I rarely wore anything remotely sporty. I tended to stick mostly with jeans for casual, and only wore my leggings, joggers etc. to the gym and around the house.
But things have changed a lot since then. Firstly, the selection of sports and athleisure clothing has just exploded. There are just so many cute and flattering options available. Many of my favorite places to shop now include amazing athleisure and loungewear lines.
I’m pretty sure that Stacy and Clinton would be ok us wearing this stuff!
Another factor that shifted my own perspective on athleisure is a change in life stage and circumstances. Since having children, I place a disproportionate amount of importance on a) getting dressed quickly and b) the ability to comfortably run/jump/crawl/roll around in my clothes. And if I can still look somewhat pulled together after doing all that, then all the better!
If this all counts as being a lazy dresser, then I’m basically ok with that.
Not only that, but nowadays my style has also become almost exclusively casual. Since I started working from home I found myself missing the distinction I used to have between my workwear and weekend wardrobes.
So athleisure suddenly gives me an option to dress down on those days when I’m in a hurry or want to be extra comfy. And now when I throw on pair of jeans, I feel a little more dressy!

Athleisure style favorites
So on to what I’m wearing.
I only have good things to say about this top. So comfy yet cute! It fits true to size, but I decided to size up for a little more room. You can find some more similar styles from the same brand here and here.
The leggings I’m wearing are another recent discovery and I’m obsessed. You can’t tell from these pictures, but they’re high waisted and do an amazing job of sucking everything in, while at the same time being extremely comfortable and looking lovely and sleek. They come in a few different colors and I promise you that you’ll love every single one of them!
Last but not least… my rose gold sneakers. These caused quite the furor when they showed up at our house. My husband couldn’t quite get his head around the fact that this grown woman “needed” gold sneakers. But judging by the reaction I got when I posted them on Instagram, I’d say I’m not the only one, haha! And I think that he’s slowly coming around to the idea of them 😉
