Polly_A Lively Mind

Welcome to A Lively Mind. Thanks for visiting – it’s lovely to have you here!

This blog covers a little bit of everything. You can expect to find stories about the trials and tribulations – oh, and joys! – of being a parent. I love fashion, so if I discover a fab new pair of shoes, a gorgeous dress or a great way to style a t-shirt, I’ll share it with you here. And I’ll also throw in a few tales about the ups and down of being a British expat in America.

My story

I’m Polly – hi! I’m a British 30-something who has ended up calling Atlanta, Georgia my home. My goodness, life has changed a lot for me over the last decade… I moved country, moved city, married a wonderful American and became a mom/mum!

Along the way, I’ve changed a lot too. And I’ve found that it’s not always easy trying to be a responsible grown up (especially in another country). Very often I feel as though I’m just muddling through! So I decided that blogging might be a good way to chronicle my everyday experience of life in America, and some of the things that I’m learning as I go.

When I’m not blogging, I have a day job as an account manager for a global consumer insights company (which probably suits me because I’m quite nosy!). In my spare time, you’ll typically find me at home with my husband and two daughters, chugging tea and eating chocolate.

Why A Lively Mind?

The name of this blog was inspired by a quote from my absolute favorite novel, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. During a conversation between Lizzy Bennet and Mr. Darcy:

Now be sincere; did you admire me for my impertinence?

For the liveliness of your mind, I did.

The character of Lizzy – defined by her intellectual curiosity and independent thinking, but still with a good dose of romance thrown in 🙂 – is one that I personally hold dear.

I tend to be a bit of an over-thinker… my mind is always busy with a million thoughts. I suppose you could say that I have a lively mind too.
